On this day – May 8, 1945, both Great Britain and the United States celebrate Victory in Europe Day. Cities in both nations, as well as formerly occupied cities in Western Europe, put out flags and banners, rejoicing in the defeat of the Nazi war machine.

CC Capella Choir – Congratulations to the CC Capella Choir for continuing the 20 year streak of Excellence at the State Choir Festival at Hope College!
They earned the highest designation of Excellence for the competition. We are all so proud of their hard work and artistry. They did a great job of representing Catholic Central at the state level.

Fall Play – Hey Folks, there are still a number of audition slots available for A Murder Is Announced especially on next Wednesday and Thursday. Check the sign-up sheet on the Band Room door and grab a slot while there are still choices of times. Auditions last for 1/2 hour so you make ride arrangements if you need to. You have nothing to lose by auditioning and you will enjoy being part of the cast if you are chosen – promise! Hope to see you there.

Art Dept.  – Come see Maria Rabaut and Clara Sund’s senior art show.  They are located on the 3rd floor of the STEAM center, just outside the art room.  Their shows will be up until this Friday.

CC Bass Team – Brennen Rodgers claimed his first, First Place victory this past weekend in a bass fishing tournament representing CC. He took 1st place out of 51 boats with a 5 fish limit weighing 17.44 pounds! Congratulations Brennen!

Senior Breakfast Tickets are now available for $3.00 from Mrs. De Young, Ms. Green or Monsieur Jones. All Seniors MUST purchase a ticket. Please purchase them ASAP. Also, if you have not yet filled out the Senior Breakfast menu form, please do so ASAP as well.

SAT prep class – Math teacher, Bob Koch, will be teaching an SAT prep class on Thursday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 30th from 3:15-5:00 in room S-124.  This is a two part group tutoring session designed to combat test anxiety, master timed tests, and develop study techniques.  The cost is $65 which includes an SAT prep workbook.  There are some funds available to help defray the cost for students who meet the qualifications for a SAT fee waiver.  Registration forms are available in the Guidance Office and must be returned along with payment by Friday, May 18th.

ACT – Friday, May 11 is Artists Creating Together Festival Day at Lincoln School. If you are interested in Volunteering, and you are in good standing with school for conduct /attendance- please talk to Mrs. DeYoung or Mrs. Olson.  ACT Festival Day is an arts based field day to celebrate and empower students with special needs.

Are you a STEAM enthusiast?  Do you like helping kids discover their passion for STEAM?  If so, sign up to help with this year’s Cougar STEAM Camp.  A day camp intended for 3rd-8th graders, this camp will take place on Tuesday, June 12th, and Wednesday June 13th in our new STEAM center.  Email Dr. Molloseau if you are interested.  15+ volunteer hours available towards next school year!

Guidance Announcements

The Career Readiness Team has assembled a comprehensive list of West Michigan area SUMMER CAMPS. Camps are a great way to help young people learn more about their interests, values, and skills – all important pieces of the career development process. Camps cover ages 4 -18.  Many offer scholarships, and several offer transportation support as well. 

A variety of career paths will be highlighted throughout Kent ISD’s Talk & Tour Career Series this year. These career exploration events are like getting 5 job shadows in one! Come hear directly from a panel of professionals, ask your career questions, and tour the employer’s workspace. Parents are encouraged to attend! Designed for 7-12 grade students.
