Overview: On September 23rd the entire CC community will participate in our sixth annual Serve-a-thon by serving at dozens of service sites throughout the Grand Rapids community. After opening with a prayer service at the Cathedral, students, faculty, and staff will head with their Coram Deo to their service site.

General FAQs:

What is the schedule for the day?

  • 8:00am:  Coram Deo
  • 8:45am:  prayer service at Cathedral of St. Andrew
  • 9:30am:  dismissal and travel to service sites
  • 10am-1:00pm: serve at service sites
  • 1:30pm: return to CC to debrief in Coram Deo
  • 2:00pm: prayer/dismissal

What will students do for lunch?

  • Students will need to bring a lunch from home or pick up a lunch from the cafeteria the morning of Serve-a-Thon
  • All students will bring their lunch to the service site and eat there (refrigeration and microwaves will not be available, please plan accordingly)
  • Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle

Do students need permission forms and/or waivers?

  • Yes. All students need to have a parent/guardian fill out a CC field trip permission form and return it to Coram Deo teachers
  • Some service sites require their own permission form/waiver; these will be sent home with students to be signed and returned to Coram Deo teachers

How will students get to and from service sites?

  • Coram Deo groups serving at sites in the Heartside Neighborhood will walk
  • Coram Deo groups serving at sites in other areas of Grand Rapids will be bused
    • Students may not drive themselves to service sites

What should my child wear on the day of Serve-a-thon?

  • Since some of the service sites will task students with hands-on projects it is advised that all students should wear clothing that they are ok getting dirty
  • Please consider packing sunscreen, too

Does my student have to attend?

  • Attendance is important and will be taken at the start and end of the day in Coram Deo.
  • If 95% of the student body attends and actively serves they will earn an incentive day off on 9/28.
  • This is an important way to give back to our community and bond as a Coram Deo.

If you have questions please reach out to your child’s Coram Deo Leader or contact
